Ring of Fire - Asymmetric Mini-Game for Minecraft

Ring of Fire is an exciting asymmetric multiplayer mini-game for Minecraft that supports varying numbers of participants. In this thrilling competition, players are divided into two opposing teams with completely different objectives and capabilities.

How to Play

At the start of a match, one hunter is determined while all other participants become survivors. The action takes place within a limited 256x256 block area defined by world borders. When the game begins, survivors are randomly distributed throughout the play zone, and all participants receive an invisibility effect for five minutes.

During this preparation phase, the hunter must place five special obsidian blocks within the game area. Each block must be placed at least 32 blocks apart from others, and after placement they begin to glow. Any unplaced blocks are removed after five minutes, while survivors can use this time for their own preparations.

Gameplay Features

After the preparation period ends, all players become visible. The hunter gains advantages including increased movement speed and complete invulnerability - although survivors can attack and knock back the hunter, their health never decreases. Additionally, the hunter receives a compass that, when activated in the main hand, points to the nearest survivor.

Each survivor has three lives. After losing their final life, the player switches to spectator mode. The glowing obsidian blocks are visible to all participants, but their visibility range is limited by game or server settings (default is 64 blocks).

The game ends when all survivors lose their lives or when all obsidian blocks are destroyed.

Setup and Launch

For proper operation, ensure the datapack is loaded and execute the /reload command (or /minecraft:reload when using Bukkit/Spigot/Paper) to initialize the pack. Add players to the survivor team using /team join Runner [player], and to the hunter team via /team join Hunter [player]. The game is not designed for multiple hunters - balance is not calculated for such configuration. When ready, any player can start the game with the /function rof:start command in the center of the play area.

Before starting a new game in the same world, all glowing obsidian blocks must be destroyed. Important: the game will not function correctly if the difficulty is set to 'Peaceful'.
