Server Side Horror

Server Side Horror is a fully server-side and configurable modification that adds atmospheric horror to your Minecraft world. The mod includes only one jump scare and numerous subtle, unsettling events, and also adds one new structure. The main advantage is that players don't need to install anything, allowing you to add this modification to the server without their knowledge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: How does this mod differ from From The Fog?

Answer: Although this mod includes several events inspired by the Herobrine story, it is not exclusively focused on that. Server Side Horror mainly aims to make your world cursed (in a spooky, good way).

Question: Do you plan to continue developing this mod?

Answer: Yes, although this mod was created as an entry for the 2025 Serverside Summer Modjam, I plan to continue its development and add more events and features over time.

Question: How were the chances for events calculated?

Answer: I wanted everyone to experience each event at least twice during a two-week Minecraft gameplay phase, but without being spammed by events. Therefore, I assumed that the most extreme two-week gameplay phase would be 5 hours of playtime per day, which means 15 in-game days or 360,000 ticks, and based on that assumption, I roughly estimated the chances.

I created this mod as an entry for the 2025 Serverside Summer Modjam. And I actually forgot about the jam and remembered only a week before the deadline, but I think the mod turned out quite good in the end. It also forced me to learn new things and look at them from a different perspective. If you encounter any bugs or other issues, please report them with a log.
