Sword Blocking Mechanics
This datapack brings back to Minecraft the ability to block attacks using a sword, similar to how it worked before version 1.8. Now you can use any sword to parry blows, significantly reducing incoming damage and knockback.
How Blocking Works
When using a sword for defense, you get several advantages. First, your base protection gets +1 additional armor point. But the main benefit is that the effectiveness of all worn armor increases by 40%. In practice, this means reducing incoming damage by 30-60% depending on the quality of your armor.
Knockback is also significantly weakened. Blocking gives +1 to knockback resistance and increases the effectiveness of your armor's knockback resistance by 60%.
Protection Against Critical Hits
The reworked mechanics also include improved armor toughness, which is particularly effective against critical hits. Although the blocking process itself doesn't provide additional toughness, it increases your total armor toughness by 30%.
Compatibility and Limitations
Even if you don't have any armor, blocking will still work, though with reduced effectiveness. However, if you're holding a shield, the ability to block with a sword is temporarily disabled for gameplay balance.
This new combat mechanic perfectly complements the standard battle system, making server PvP more strategic and diverse.
Please note that blocking mechanics may be improved in future updates, possibly with the addition of a parrying system.
