Sleight of Skills
Sleight of Skills is a 1.20.1 datapack built upon Pufferfish's Skills and Attributes mods. This implementation offers intuitive, vanilla-friendly skill trees with particular emphasis on balance and ease of use.
The skill trees are structured in a logical, flowing manner—each skill is positioned so you can preview the entire development path for that particular direction. All abilities are carefully balanced in a vanilla+ style, similar to my Ascendant Tales pack. The core concept of these skills is to provide passive bonuses to existing character attributes, helping to substantially enhance your character without breaking game balance or risking becoming too overpowered.
Skill Trees
Below is a description of each available skill tree along with the abilities and attributes you can acquire.
Gaining Experience
Experience progression is based on EXP (experience points) and character levels—meaning any advancement in your character's levels contributes to your skill tree progression. Losing EXP, such as after death, does not remove already acquired skills.
Skill trees develop according to activity type: combat actions provide experience in the Combat Tree, while mining diamond ore increases progress in the Mining Tree.
Mining Tree
The root abilities in this tree determine your starting attributes. Here you'll need to make a choice—you can only develop one of the available paths.
- Golden pickaxes increase mining speed.
- Triple hearts boost maximum health.
- Single hearts enhance natural health regeneration.
- Diamonds increase the chance of obtaining items with the Fortune effect.
- Up arrows improve jump height.
Skills located at the same level but on different branches are mutually exclusive—you can only choose one of them.

Combat Tree
This tree differs in that both paths can be developed simultaneously. This design choice isn't for RPG effect but to maintain vanilla gameplay flexibility: every player should be able to use both bows and swords.
The initial abilities of both branches increase melee and ranged damage by 5%.
- Swords boost percentage-based melee damage.
- Bows improve percentage-based ranged damage.
- Triple hearts increase maximum health.
- Single hearts make health regeneration more effective.
- Food increases stamina reserves.
- Boots improve movement speed.
- Shields provide additional damage resistance.
- Up arrows enhance jump height.
