Sodium Extras
Sodium Extras is an extension for the popular Sodium mod (and Embeddium on older versions) that significantly enhances the gaming experience and performance in Minecraft.
Key Features
Entity Rendering Optimization The mod implements a system for culling distant entities, which is particularly useful in modpacks. You can configure the Y-axis value to disable rendering mobs in caves while you're on the surface. This feature can be configured or completely disabled. Incompatible with the Out Of Sight mod, which performs a similar function but doesn't support Sodium.
Enhanced FPS Counter A more aesthetic and functional frames-per-second counter. Supports displaying minimum frame time (useful for lag debugging) and average values over the last 15 seconds (for accurate performance testing).
Seamless Fullscreen Mode Minecraft's default fullscreen mode makes switching between applications difficult. This option replaces the standard Sodium fullscreen function and is disabled by default.
Realistic Darkness Settings for creating truly dark nights and caves. The feature is fully customizable and can be disabled as desired.
Fog Management An option to completely disable fog, which is missing from standard Sodium.
Font Optimization The ability to disable text shadows, which speeds up text element rendering.
Customizable Cloud Height Standard clouds in Minecraft are positioned quite low. The mod allows you to raise them higher, which is especially relevant for Forge users where alternative solutions are unavailable.
Dynamic Lighting Integration Full compatibility with dynamic lighting mods. Sodium Extras significantly improves their performance through optimizations. If you use MDL, this mod will be an excellent addition.
Notes
The mod previously included a zoom function, but it was removed due to the emergence of numerous specialized zoom mods.
On version 1.16.5, the chunk fade-in function is available — a port of the "Fade In Chunks" mod from Fabric. This option creates a gradual appearance effect for new chunks, similar to Bedrock Edition, reducing the abrupt "popping" of terrain during game loading, world switching, or fast movement. The feature is configurable and can be disabled.
