Spartan Shields
Merry Christmas! Spartan Shields 3.0.0 beta is now available for Minecraft 1.18.2!
Key Features
- The mod is now open source under Apache 2.0 license
- Added aluminum shields
- Introduced tower shields for all materials except unsupported Mekanism ones (they already exist in Mekanism Tools)
- Implemented shield bash compatibility for vanilla shield and other modded shields (requires adding to "spartanshields:shields_with_bash" tag)
Getting Started
Right from the beginning, you can craft a basic wooden shield as soon as you chop down some trees! In version 3.0.0, the recipe changed - now requiring only 4 planks instead of 6.

Alternatively, you can make a wooden tower shield that can display banners!

Wood won't last long, so you can upgrade the shield when you obtain new materials. Important: the wooden shield must be undamaged for upgrading!

The same can be done with the wooden tower shield! In version 3.0.0, this requires six units of the appropriate material.

Without additional mods, the following shield types are available:
- Stone braced shield and stone tower shield
- Iron plated shield and iron tower shield
- Gold gilded shield and gold tower shield
- Diamond reinforced shield and diamond tower shield
- Bulky obsidian shield and obsidian tower shield → increased knockback resistance + slower movement speed
Support for Materials from Popular Mods
Depending on installed mods and available materials, additional recipes become accessible.
The following shields require mods with corresponding OreDictionary [1.12.2 and below] or vanilla tags [1.13.2 and above]:

Tower Shields
Tower shields function similarly to regular shields but can also display banners! In version 3.x, they gained more durability, can shield bash multiple enemies in a small radius, and have an increased cooldown time.

Enchantments
Most shields can be enchanted using an enchanting table, unlike the vanilla shield. The exception are shields powered by RF/FE energy.
Available enchantments:
- Unbreaking [Vanilla]
- Knockback [Vanilla] → enhances knockback power of shield bash
- Spikes - Max level: 3 - Gives a chance to damage any mob attacking the shield while blocking
New in 2.1.0 (for 1.14.4):
- Firebrand - Max level: 2 - Shield bash sets the target on fire. Higher levels increase burn duration
- Payback - Max level: 4 - Blocking absorbs about 50% of damage into the shield. This boosts shield bash damage. Higher levels increase maximum damage the shield can absorb by 2 points per level
Requires Java 8!
Future Version Plans
- IC2 shields
- Dragonbone shield (from Ice and Fire) (coming soon)
