Spawn Cap / Range Adjuster

This modification provides the ability to configure the maximum number of mobs that can spawn in the world, as well as adjust the distance from the player where their appearance is allowed.

The mod is installed only on the server side.

In multiplayer scenarios, when many chunks are loaded, mobs create significant load on the server, making optimization difficult. Additionally, the spawning process consumes a substantial portion of resources. This modification solves the following problems:

  • Reduces the total number of spawning mobs, decreasing lags from processing irrelevant entities
  • Ensures that mob spawning does not occur in chunks located far from players
  • Skips spawning attempts in locations unrelated to players, speeding up spawn calculations by half

Since mob spawning is an important element of many technical constructions in Minecraft, by default the mod does not change the standard spawning range. The user can configure the settings to reduce the spawning area and limitations. The following capabilities are available:

  • Reducing the frequency of spawning checks (by default 4 times less frequent)
  • Limiting the maximum spawning distance of mobs from the nearest player (spawning sphere radius)
  • Limiting the height difference between mob and player: reduces underground spawning when the player is on the surface, and surface spawning when the player is underground (this setting may disrupt the operation of most mob farms)
  • Reducing the maximum number of mobs per chunk (standard value - 70 entities per 289 chunks)
  • Limiting the total number of mobs in a dimension (in vanilla version there are no restrictions)
  • Adjusting the number of entities of each type both per chunk and in total

Frequently Asked Questions:

Question: Should I use this mod instead of InControl?

Answer: These mods solve different tasks. It's better to use both: Spawn Cap / Range Adjuster to reduce the overall number of mobs, and InControl to regulate the spawning of specific entity types.

Question: What settings are optimal if mob farms are not important?

Answer: Set maximum spawn range to 64 blocks, maximum height difference to 16 blocks, limit per 289 chunks to 30 mobs, total limit to 150 entities.
