Spelunking Bags
Important note for versions 1.20+:
Development of this mod for versions 1.20+ has been discontinued, but the author planned to rework it, transforming it from a bag mod into an archaeology expansion. For versions 1.20+, it is recommended to check out Sweety's Archaeology, which uses some concepts from this mod in a more refined form.
Spelunking Bags is a mod inspired by Wandering Bags, adding loot bags left by ancient miners. They rarely drop when mining stone and contain useful items for cave exploration! Each bag gives you a Relic and a small chance to get an additional item. The mod aims to reward players for active resource mining, not just collecting visible ores, making mining sessions more interesting.
The mod adds 3 types of bags that can be found when mining vanilla stones (by default). Each has a general rarity (probability of dropping in any biome) and a special rarity for specific biomes (probability of appearing more frequently in certain biomes). By default, the most common bag is the Miner's Tools Bag, found more often in forest biomes. The Miner's Plants Bag is slightly rarer and appears more frequently in Lush Caves. Finally, the Miner's Treasures Bag is the rarest, mainly found in Dripstone Caves.
Each bag can contain one of 4 unique relics, as well as an additional gift (a few iron ingots for the Tools Bag, Glow Berries for the Plants Bag, Disc Fragments for the "Rascal" music disc in the Treasure Bag). Each relic can be disabled via the configuration file, and players will receive more additional gifts instead. The probability of bag appearances can be fully configured through the mod's configuration file, and the list of blocks that drop bags and "additional spawning biomes" can be modified using datapacks.
Miner's Tools Bag
- Sword of The Depths: This sword displays altitude in the action bar (can be disabled with the doSwordOfTheDepthsAltitudeDisplay gamerule), as well as a "strength" bar. By default, the sword is quite weak, but the deeper you are, the stronger the strength effect you receive. It is also effective in the Nether, and using it in the End or high in the sky will give you several debuffs. Repaired with Netherite Scraps.
- Fiery Pickaxe: This pickaxe smelts mined blocks and burns entities. Repaired with Netherite Scraps.
- Sharp iron Pickaxe: This is a regular iron pickaxe but deals more damage and has a specific cooldown, making it a great weapon for PvP and PvE (between swords and axes). Can be upgraded to Netherite.
- Climbing Axe: This item allows you to climb walls. You need to stick to the wall and target above the block in front of you, after which you can climb. Take your time, don't spam or hold right-click, or you won't be able to climb optimally and will eventually fall.
Miner's Plants Bag
- Glowing Spores: This plant can be consumed or brewed to obtain a new potion effect, Luminous Spores. This effect will place glowing vines at your feet at the cost of some saturation (if you have enough) when standing in a too dark place, allowing you to light your path without additional actions or avoid using ugly torch grids in caves.
- Strange Root: This root can be used in a Brewing Stand to obtain "Miner's Brew" bottles. This drink can give random buffs or debuffs.
- Yellow Mushroom: This mushroom can be eaten or brewed to obtain the Haste effect without using a Beacon, but only Haste I potions.
- Ancient Seed: This seed can only be planted on moss, does not require light or water, and cannot be bone-mealed. When fully grown, it gives an Ancient Berry and has a 1/2 chance of giving a seed, making the plant not infinitely renewable. Ancient Berries give the Poisonous effect, making you immune to Poison, and any entity you hit or that hits you will get a few seconds of poison.
Miner's Treasures Bag
- Broken Clock: This item is used like a Totem of Undying. Upon death, it will be consumed, and the player will get a "Death Delay" of 15 seconds (configurable with the brokenClockDelay gamerule), during which they are almost invincible, allowing them to save their items when falling into lava or use it as a strategy against powerful enemies.
- Bat Talisman: This talisman can be used to apply glowing to nearby monsters, as well as weaken them, which is useful for locating monsters or caves. It can also be brewed into a Sonar Potion, constantly giving Glowing to monsters.
- Golden Cube: This relic can fully repair any item with durability. Simply hold it in one hand, the item to repair in the other, and sneak-right click. The Cube will be consumed in the process.
- Spider Amulet: This item can summon a friendly spider that defends you from monsters. The spider gets a Poisonous effect when hit.
The mod also adds an incredible music disc by RedWolfNinja, which you can listen to here: Rascal
