Spice of Life: Sweet Potato Edition
Transforming Game Nutrition
This modification completely changes the approach to food in Minecraft! Unlike traditional Spice of Life variations, this version encourages constant dietary variety rather than just a one-time consumption of each food item. The player's diet is continuously monitored, and maintaining food diversity grants special bonuses.
Note: Support for this version for Minecraft 1.18 has been discontinued. For versions 1.20+, it's recommended to use Spice of Life Onion.
How the Diversity System Works
The mod analyzes the last 32 consumed food items (configurable quantity) and calculates a dietary variety score. The more diverse foods you consume, the higher your score becomes, with recently eaten items carrying more weight.
It's important to understand that bonuses are not permanent! If you persistently eat only bread or potatoes, all earned advantages will gradually disappear. To maintain the bonuses, you need to continually include new products in your diet.
Customizable Benefits
The bonus system is completely flexible. By default, a high diversity level provides:
- Additional maximum health
- Permanent movement speed boost
- Increased attack power
- Health regeneration
- Improved armor toughness
But this is just the standard set! You can configure any potion effects or modify various character attributes.
The system behavior is easily customizable—you can set bonus acquisition thresholds, variety calculation methods, significance of each food item, and much more.
Useful Items
Food Book − shows current diversity score, list of recently consumed foods, and information about available bonuses. The book interface can also be opened via a hotkey.

Lunchboxes − smart containers that automatically select foods that maximize dietary variety during the next meal. Use them for convenience!
Technical Side
The mod is entirely independent and works without dependencies, although AttributeFix may be required for extending attribute limits.
Main Commands
/solsweetpotato diversity− displays the current diversity score/solsweetpotato clear− clears the food consumption history (useful for testing)/solsweetpotato sync− synchronizes food lists between client and server
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it possible to add penalties for a monotonous diet?
- Yes! Versions 2.0.0+ include a "detriments" system that applies negative effects when dietary variety is low.
Compatibility with other modifications:
- There's a known incompatibility issue with AppleSkin for lunchboxes due to missing API in newer versions.
- If "Always Eat" mod is installed, add lunchboxes to its blacklist.
