Squake [Forge]: Quake-Style Speed Movement for Minecraft
About the Modification
The Squake [Forge] mod is a port of the original plugin from version 1.12.2 to more recent Minecraft releases 1.16.5 and 1.18.2.
Technical Features
IMPORTANT: This modification is created exclusively for Forge and will never be adapted for Fabric. All porting requests will be ignored.
Squake completely reworks movement mechanics in Minecraft, drawing inspiration from dynamic shooters such as Fortress Forever and Team Fortress Classic.
Key Functions
The mod introduces advanced movement techniques:
- Bunnyhopping - consecutive jumps while maintaining speed
- Strafe jumping - sideways acceleration technique in air
- Air control - ability to change flight trajectory mid-air
- Trimping - conversion of horizontal speed into vertical
- Sharking - gliding across water surfaces
The acceleration system is based on code from Half-Life, but in terms of feel it closely resembles classic Quake series games. By default, bunnyhopping has no limits, but settings allow for soft and hard caps modeled after Fortress Forever.
The trimping mechanic works as follows: when moving at sufficiently high speed, holding the crouch key while jumping converts some horizontal speed into vertical. The sharking technique allows gliding on water by constantly pressing jump.
The modification also disables speed loss when taking fall damage, which is crucial for server gameplay.
