This mod is an optimization addon that significantly improves Minecraft performance by removing invisible sides of the bottom and top layers of the world. Under normal conditions, these polygons remain invisible to the player but still consume system resources.

Substrate intelligently determines when these surfaces actually need to be displayed and removes them in other cases. In the regular world (Overworld), the bottom layer of polygons is completely removed, while in the Nether, both the bottom and top layers are removed.

An important feature is that the mod does not check block types and works effectively even on floating island maps, making it useful for mini-games and special servers.
