Vampirism and Ritual Magic

New dangerous creatures appear in the Minecraft world - vampires that can be encountered in graveyards. These bloodthirsty hostile mobs are armed with swords, can heal themselves, and drop vampire dust upon death. A particular threat is the Necromancer - a boss version of a vampire who masters dark magic and poses a serious danger to the player.

When attacked by vampires, there is a risk of contracting the Curse of Vampirism. An alternative way to become a vampire is to sign a special Contract. Vampires gain increased damage and speed, become invisible when sneaking, but become vulnerable to sunlight and the Smite enchantment. Their regeneration is weakened, but they become immune to poison and no longer need food.

Ritual Altar

To perform magical rituals, you'll need a ritual altar that can be found or created yourself. This same altar is required for signing the Vampirism Contract. Each ritual requires a specific item, a soul gem, and a certain number of lit candles arranged in a circle.

Ritual altars can automatically capture the souls of most mobs when containing an amethyst shard inside. This process can be automated using hoppers. Each soul preserves most of its carrier's data, doesn't drop experience and items after death, and has a certain value - from petty to grand, which is important for most rituals.

Tome of Rituals

The game features a Tome of Rituals that serves as a guide to all possible rituals and their requirements.

Spooks and Possession

Spooks are new spirits that inhabit exclusively graveyards. They spawn from grave soil blocks (which require an iron shovel to collect). These timid creatures love to hide inside other entities, including players if provoked.

When a spook possesses a creature, it gains the Possession effect with corresponding buffs and debuffs. Most mobs receive damage resistance to protect their host. Spooks make animals levitate and ignite to scare the player, without caring about the animals' fate. If a spook possesses a player, they become weaker.

Ghost Exorcism

The Glowing effect forces a spook to leave its target, as they cannot tolerate light. Sunlight is especially terrifying for them - upon direct contact they completely disappear. By default, spooks are not persistent but can become so if their last victim was persistent. This allows keeping spooks or using them on animal farms while maintaining the possibility of natural despawn.

If a spook voluntarily leaves a player (rather than being forced out), it becomes friendly to that player.

Possessed Armor

When a spook possesses a set of armor, it creates an exact copy of the armor that was on the armor stand, leaving the stand itself empty. Upon death, possessed armor drops this copy and cannot despawn naturally, eliminating item loss. All possessed armor is armed with an iron sword and cannot exist without the Possession effect.

Possessed Armor

If a friendly spook possesses armor, it becomes tamed to the player, changing attack priorities and gaining an additional buff. Tamed possessed armor can use the Mending enchantment to repair itself during combat.

Vexes

The mod updates vexes. In version 1.19.2, they receive the updated appearance and model from version 1.19.3. Now vexes always save a home position and have a lifespan of 100 seconds regardless of how they spawn. This is because vexes can now spawn from grave soil instead of spooks, giving them a natural habitat in graveyards. For balance and reduced annoyance, they maintain their standard characteristics when needed. Previously, home position and lifespan only applied when summoned by an evoker.
