Terra 1 to 1 - Real Earth Generator for Minecraft
![]()
Notice: This project is no longer in active development. No new features will be added, however we continue to maintain the mod's functionality for Minecraft 1.12.2.
Current version: For a more up-to-date version, we recommend using the fork Terra++.
What is the mod?
Terra 1 to 1 is a unique world generator for Minecraft that creates our planet at a 1:1 scale using real geographical data. Each block in the game corresponds to one meter on the actual Earth.

Technical Features
Dependencies
The mod requires installation of:
- Minecraft Forge for version 1.12.2
- CubicChunks — a mod that expands vertical world capabilities
- CubicWorldGen version 0.0.85.0 or higher — for three-dimensional chunk generation
Data Sources
The mod loads information in real time from:
- Topographic data — AWS Terrain Tiles
- Forest data — World Resources Institute
- Road network — OpenStreetMap
- Climate data — University of Delaware
- Soil data — USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service
Important: The mod requires a stable internet connection. Not recommended for use with mobile internet without unlimited data plans.
Demonstrations
See how the mod works in action:
Usage
Client
When creating a new world, select the "Planet Earth" world type. Initial spawn occurs around coordinates (0,0,0) — the so-called "Null Island". Use the teleportation command to explore real locations.
Server
Server setup instructions are available in the project documentation.
Known Issues
The mod is still in development, so there are some shortcomings:
- Water features require improvement
- Coastlines appear angular
- No rivers and lakes above sea level
- Biomes may be classified incorrectly in some regions
- Biome boundaries have straight-line shapes
Development Prospects
Developer plans include:
- Adding real rivers, lakes, and coastlines
- Updating forest data to 2012
- Additional interface settings
- Improved coordinate navigation
- Solution for the antimeridian problem
- Special Nether version with 1:1000 ratio
