TFC Ambiental - Body Temperature System for TerraFirmaCraft
Imagine the pleasant feeling of returning home to a warm fireplace after a long cold night or the refreshing coolness of an oasis in the scorching desert. The TFC Ambiental mod brings these sensations to the game by adding a realistic body temperature system and corresponding environmental changes.
What's New in Versions
The update for version 1.18.2 brought a clothing system, more balanced settings, and improved indoor detection. Version 2.2 added grass coloring with noise effects and seasonal foliage and vegetation color changes - be sure to check the screenshots! All parameters are fully configurable.
Key Features
This mod will make you think about how to properly cool down or warm up, but without the constant discomfort typical of similar modifications. The system is fully integrated with TerraFirmaCraft's basic blocks and environmental mechanics.
Although the mod is configurable, adding custom block and item modifiers requires access to the Java API. TFC creates a delicate ecosystem with limited fuel resources, so customization should be done more carefully.
How the Temperature System Works
Basic Principles
- Comfortable Range: Try to maintain temperature between 0 and 30 degrees, approaching the ideal 15 degrees. Watch for the temperature arrow to remain as white as possible.
- Rate of Change: The speed of heating and cooling is affected by surrounding blocks, humidity, and other factors. Heat exchange efficiency decreases as you approach the target temperature.
Influencing Factors
Temperature Modifiers: Every element in the mod has a heat value (positive or negative) and an effectiveness indicator affecting the rate of your temperature change.
Environment: Temperature in different TFC regions depends on season and location. Low effectiveness but depends on humidity.
Weather Conditions: Being outdoors during bad weather cools you quickly, and even inside shelter during a storm there is temperature decrease. Medium effectiveness.
Time of Day: Warmer during the day, cooler in morning and evening, cold at night. Zero effectiveness.
Liquids: Water cools, while spring water (or lava for emergencies) warms. Very high effectiveness.
Additional Factors
- Shade: A roof overhead in scorching sun works wonders, any helmet also protects from direct sunlight. Moderate insulation.
- Health: Hydration helps with heat, satiety helps with cold. No insulation.
- Diet: Fruits and vegetables help in summer heat, meat and grains help in winter cold. No insulation.
- Underground: Temperature in mines just below surface is quite cold but gets warmer with depth. Low effectiveness.
- Fire: Various heat sources (campfires, forges) help warm up. Effectiveness depends on proximity to source. No effectiveness.
- Items: Items heated in TFC devices (ingots, pottery) also warm you. Small effectiveness.
- Clothing (NEW): Wool and leather clothing warms, silk and burlap cools, with different insulation levels.
Survival Tips in Heat
- Shade: Sit under a tree or roof. Sun rays can "roast" you.
- Thirst: Maintain good hydration for natural thermoregulation.
- Headgear: Wear any headgear for sun protection outdoors (straw hat is best early option).
- Water: In emergencies, find cold water and immerse for quick cooling.
- Diet: Eat more fruits and vegetables in hot seasons for improved passive cooling.
- Cellar: Do home activities underground below y=135 during daytime.
- Work: Avoid constant running, stay away from forges or create an apron when working with hot devices.
- Nocturnal Lifestyle: Explore world in evening or morning when sun is less active. Bring water, fruits, and helmet!
- Altitude: Temperature decreases with height, so build homes on hills or mountains in tropics.
Survival Tips in Cold
- Cozy: Create a good home or shelter with reliable roof and sufficient lighting.
- Clothing: Acquire wool or leather clothing before end of autumn (leather more accessible, but wool warmer).
- Food: Maintain satiety for natural heating.
- Diet: Eat more grain and meat in cold seasons for improved passive heating.
- Fire: Various fire sources warm: campfires, fire pits, charcoal forges, bloomeries, lamps - only when burning, with fuel and heated. More effective indoors.
- Hot Springs: For emergency warming or relaxation, use TFC hot springs. Find natural spring and build sauna ;)
- Snow: Clear snow around house if cold becomes unbearable.
- Items: When going outside, carry several hot ingots in inventory for short-term heating.
- Diurnal Lifestyle: Explore world during day when sun is active. Bring bread, meat, and armor!
- Altitude: Temperature decreases with height, so build homes at sea level in tundra - mountain peaks dangerous in winter.
Clothing Types
- Insulated Leather: From leather armor and thread - best choice for first winter set
- Wool: From wool cloth, harder to obtain in large quantities - powerful but expensive winter set
- Silk: From silk cloth, created from spider silk - cools and provides some insulation
- Burlap: From burlap cloth, created from jute fibers - cools less than silk but insulates better
