The Hinterlands Mod
Introduction: The Hinterlands modification introduces players to a completely new dimension called The Hinterlands. It is a frosty world rich in diverse biomes, where you'll find unique features including two new types of materials and a humanoid race. Journey to this cold but beautiful world for treasures surpassing diamonds and face monsters more dangerous than zombies. The goal of this modification is to create an add-on that seamlessly fits into the standard Minecraft gameplay, preserving its atmosphere.
Portal: To access the dimension, a portal made from blue ice is required. It is activated using a snowflake, which can be found in abandoned camps located in flat biomes of the Overworld. Additionally, there is a 50% chance of finding a snowflake in Frostborne settlements in case you get stuck.
Materials: The mod adds two new ores and two types of wood. The more common ore is Frigus, a frosty blue ingot-based material similar to iron. While Frigus is significantly inferior to diamond in durability, it surpasses iron. Rarer is Pruinae, a purple gem-based ore found deep underground or guarded by strong opponents. Pruinae notably exceeds diamond in durability. The dimension also allows for mining iron and coal for convenience. The added wood types are Frostwood and Gelida. Gelida has a pink hue, while Frostwood is frosty blue and slippery.
Hinterland Ice: In this dimension, stone is replaced by a hard, rock-like ice. It resembles stone in that it has craftable variants and a cobblestone version.
Mobs: The primary inhabitants of these lands are the Frostborne, a neutral race of humans trapped here long ago. They live in lodges and settlements throughout the world, divided into four professions: Chieftain, Fighter, Archer, and Survivor. Beware of Ice Skitterers that spawn at night. These insects attack everything, even their own kind. Occasionally, you may come across a tower inhabited by the evil Iceborn Mage. Fight him and claim his magical staff.
Other Notable Features: The modification adds two flowers—Pansies and Heather—which currently serve only for decoration. Also introduced is a new variant of snow called Yellow Snow, which can be made into snowballs and snow cones, possessing poisonous properties. Snow cones are created from respective snowballs and paper: available are the basic snow cone, the yellow snow cone, and the berry snow cone. All are edible, but the yellow one is poisonous.
