The Slumbering Omen

WARNING: Some events may trigger epileptic seizures in sensitive individuals!

Imagine: you return home after a hard day's work and decide to relax with Minecraft. You create a new world, unaware that the chosen seed awakens an ancient evil that has been dormant for many years. This is how your encounter with The Slumbering Omen begins.

About the Mod's Creation

This horror-fantasy project was inspired by horror modpacks. The Slumbering Omen is a lost soul that has taken the form of a tall, distorted humanoid residing in a randomly selected world seed.

Behavior Features

The creature appears in all dimensions but not everywhere at once—only one copy exists in the world. It doesn't constantly pursue you, preferring more sophisticated methods of interaction.

The Slumbering Omen can squeeze through narrow spaces, stalk the player, observe, and even communicate in basic English. Unlike most aggressive mobs, it doesn't seek to immediately kill its victim but enjoys toying with them, demonstrating unpredictable behavior that can sometimes even be beneficial to the player.

You may notice the creature in various situations: it might simply observe, stalk, damage your crops, animals, or torches, and sometimes just laze around.

Combat Capabilities

When the creature decides to attack, it becomes a serious threat. Overly self-confident and considering itself superior to others, it possesses numerous tricks beyond ordinary melee attacks. The creature's weak spot is its feet and lower legs.

Recommended Mods

For maximum atmosphere, we recommend installing:

  • Ambient Sounds
  • Hardcore Darkness (or other complete darkness mods)
  • Dynamic Lighting

Useful Tips

Distorted Ender Pearl

Holding a distorted ender pearl grants the "shielded" effect. When the "Absolute Dread" effect expires, the creature won't perform its final attack, and the pearl is consumed instead.

Damage Effects

The "Crushing Omen" and "Absolute Dread" effects cause the player to take damage in darkness. It's recommended to stay near torches or other light sources.

Mod Materials

Materials drop from the mod's mobs, including scouts and mangled creatures. Omen materials can be obtained by attacking the creature with the Chipclaw weapon—you don't need to kill it to craft equipment.

Jumpscares

When the creature approaches the player during pursuit, it may trigger a special jumpscare that shocks and immobilizes the player until ESC is pressed. This is not a bug but an intentional feature.

Pursuit Mechanics

During pursuit, special music plays and visual cues appear. The creature moves directly toward the player, changing speed based on player actions: normal walking—standard speed, sprinting—acceleration, sneaking—deceleration, jumping—brief speed boost. The creature also uses a less aggressive version of its spike attack and breaks blocks, so hiding in a corner isn't an option.

Technical Features

REQUIRES GECKOLIB TO WORK!

Pressing ALT removes all jumpscare effects from the player—this feature was added in case of visual bugs.

IMPORTANT: Jumpscares work best with automatic GUI placement. Smaller interface options may crop the image.

How to Beat the Mod

WARNING: SPOILERS!

To complete the mod, you need to collect all 4 pieces of the torn photograph:

  1. The first piece is obtained by killing the Omen
  2. The second piece drops with a 50% chance when killing a mangled enderman
  3. The third piece can be obtained by approaching the observing creature—with successful interaction, there's a 50% chance to receive the photo piece and diamonds
  4. The fourth piece rarely drops when offering sweet berry treats to the passive creature

After collecting all pieces, combine them on a crafting table with 1 slimeball. Then create a photo frame from logs, sticks, and planks. When the creature begins pursuit, click on it with the photo in hand—this will trigger dialogue with lore elements and reward you with the powerful weapon "Delirium."

After this, the creature becomes friendly: it will be inactive, sit around, and gift items without risk. It will even defend the player from attacks!

If you want to continue playing with the hostile creature, craft the "Enigmatic Vortex," which will reset the main quest.

Note: The creature's canonical name before transformation is Tiso.
