The Vegan Option
Veganism is a way of living that seeks to exclude, as far as possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing and any other purpose.
The Vegan Option is a modification that adds vegan alternatives to mob drops, following two main principles: it doesn't add anything to world generation and doesn't introduce new agricultural crops.

Compatibility with Other Mods
The mod provides special handling for Jade and WTHIT for certain blocks, such as the composter. There is also integration with JEI and REI for piston crafting, composting, and an in-game wiki.
Integration with Thermal Series, Create, and Farmers Delight is planned when these mods become available.
Versions for 1.10.2 and below have integration features with Pam's HarvestCraft, WAILA, JEI/NEI, Immersive Engineering, Thermal Foundation and Expansion.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is this needed? Veganism in the game is simply a playstyle that I prefer. I believe survival games offer a unique way to explore vegan ethics that isn't available in the real world. For example, attempting to adhere to veganism in Minecraft leads to interesting questions like: "Can killing a mob be considered self-defense if I'm partially responsible for their spawning?" This also encourages non-standard behavior, such as creating weapons with minimal damage.
Do I have to play as a vegan with this mod? No, this mod simply makes veganism a viable option in Minecraft. If you don't adhere to veganism while using this mod, it will still provide you with several useful features:
- Alternative (and hopefully interesting) ways to obtain mob drops
- New uses for various vanilla Minecraft blocks and items that previously had little use (ferns, sunflowers, spruce wood, sandstone, etc.)
Goals Before Version 1.0.0
- Balancing
- Adding features for all remaining mob drops
- Making the mod configurable
- Adding as many mod integrations as possible
Forks
This mod wasn't updated for versions 1.11 through 1.19. During this time, forks were created for the following versions:
- Vegan Life for 1.12
- Vegan Alternative for 1.11
Legacy Features
The following features that existed in older versions have been removed:
- White ink as an alternative to bone meal for dyeing. Removed in 1.20.2 because the vanilla version includes several ways to create white dye without killing mobs.
Additional Information
You can add this mod to any mod packs.
The original mod idea came from wha-ha-ha on Reddit.
