IntoTheVoid [Discontinued]
Developer Note: This is an old mod that I'm keeping online only for the BetterMC+ 1.16.5 modpack. No rework is planned, updates are only possible for critical issues. If you experience crashes, try turning off your sound. The 1.18 version will not be updated or fixed.

"If you're not careful and escape reality in the wrong areas, you'll end up in the void, where there's nothing but the smell of rotting old fruit, the madness of the black sky, endless background noise at maximum, and about six hundred million square miles of empty space. God save you if you hear something wandering around, because he certainly heard you."
New Dimension Behind Bedrock
IntoTheVoid adds a new dimension behind bedrock, filled with unique monsters, structures, and items!
Gas Mechanics
The mod's core is a gas extraction system. Using an oxygen sealer, empty bottle, and slimeball, you can obtain different gases depending on the world you're in. Placing foliage above the device speeds up the process. Each world (except the End, where there's no oxygen) provides a unique gas.
Gas Types
- Oxygen (Overworld Gas): Allows replenishing air supply underwater. Turns into liquid oxygen at layer 200.
- Nether Gas: Highly flammable and explosive. Drinking it gives a "combustible" effect. Combined with nether wart in a still creates a combustible potion.
- Void Air (Void Gas): Creates a "null" block for traveling between Overworld and Void. (1.16.5 FIX ONLY: Can be destroyed by right-clicking a null block with another gas bottle. Placing and removing it causes a massive explosion)
- Liquid Oxygen: Allows placing snow layers. Transforms bedrock into weak bedrock, which can be broken.
The Void
Remember to take a balloon or slow falling potion - you're always falling when entering or exiting the Void!
There are two ways to access the Void:
- Through a portal block (null block created by a void air bottle), but it's only visible in the Void
- Jumping into the void in the Overworld or End
To exit, use a null block or jump behind bedrock in the Void. Liquid oxygen is obtained above Y200 with an oxygen bottle.
If you're stuck in the dimension, remember there's still a way to escape (1.16.5 FIX ONLY)! You can mine void stone, find iron/redstone/slime/bottles in structure chests, or get redstone from parasites and slime balls from Servants of the Keeper. Once you gather these materials, craft an oxygen extractor and use a bottle + slime ball to get Void Air. Place Void Air to create a Null Block - a portal between the Void and Overworld (it teleports you high in the Overworld sky, so you'll need a bucket, balloon, slow falling potion, or luck to land on a mountain or ocean).
Structures and Vegetation
- Void Tree: A fruit tree, fruits are harvested by right-clicking. Can also break leaves, but this may spawn a parasite.
- Fallen Explorer Camp: Wool tent with a bed and crafting table. Void wood doesn't allow crafting tables, so this is the only way to get one in the dimension if you didn't bring your own. The structure is very rare, so better prepare in advance.
- Ruined House: Small structure made of brick and void wood. Contains a bed with a chest that may hold various mod items and enchanted books.
- Boss Arena: Relatively rare structure with a block featuring orange corners in the center. Clicking it summons the boss and his servants.
Mobs
- Void Inhabitant: Defends itself when attacked. Periodically becomes invisible and extremely fast during this time, making escape difficult.
- Withered Allay: Aggressive wither version of Allay. Attacks with wither spit.
- Parasite: Spawns during boss fights, when breaking fruit leaves, and naturally like other mobs. When biting a player without the effect, applies Void Parasite effect.
- Shadow Golem: The mod's pet, harmless to players. Tamed with distorted fruits. Uses almost the same attack as Withered Allay.
- Servants of the Keeper: Spawn when the boss appears, perform fast attacks (white beam) and buff the boss if nearby. Visible through boss particles: grey - weaker, light red - buffed.
- The Keeper: Dimension's protector sealed in an arena. Made of voidstone and void shards. Has 3 phases (health bar divided into 6 parts, each phase corresponds to 2 parts).
- Phase 1: Full health, summons parasites and launches player upward.
- Phase 2: Creates explosions when taking damage and inflicts negative effects on player.
- Phase 3: Most dangerous, can launch player higher and use an ability that paralyzes attacking player while buffing itself. This makes it stronger and faster while player is immobilized. Upon death, disintegrates into 10 parasites that infect player if they want to collect loot. Also inflicts weakness and hunger on nearby players.
Decorative Blocks
Planks and derived items from void wood, plus several variants of voidstone.
Items
- Void Powder: Sneak right-click transforms blocks with void variants (cobblestone, planks, wood, etc.) into their void versions. Loot from parasites and ruined house chests.
- Void Shards: Used to craft Void Ingot (4 void shards + 4 diamonds).
- Void Ingot: Allows upgrading netherite gear to shadow gear in a smithing table.
- Distorted Fruit: Chance to cause paranoia for a few seconds. Only food in the dimension. Found on trees and in ruined house loot. Shadow Golems also drop 1 upon death.
Shadow Tools and Gear
- Armor: Slightly better than netherite. Sneaking makes you invisible, fast (almost like walking), and resistant. Also protects from paranoia effect.
- Shadow Sword: Inflicts wither on target.
- Shadow Pickaxe: Mines in a 3x3 area.
- Others: Only increased durability and efficiency.
Fun Items
- Balloon: Holding gives slow falling, holding two (one in off-hand) allows slow flight. Very useful as it's easy to craft and prevents fall death when visiting the Void!
- Flamethrower: Can hold right-click for continuous firing. Reload by sneak right-clicking with nether gas bottle in off-hand.
- Dragon Breath Thrower: Launches projectiles resembling Ender Dragon's, dealing heavy damage. Can hold right-click for continuous firing. Reload by sneak right-clicking with dragon breath bottle in off-hand.
Enchantments
- Hope: Sword enchantment. When player has 4 hearts or less, can sneak to receive energy from living beings and plants. Slows all non-aggressive mobs within 30 blocks and gives player strength 5, surrounded by small particles.
- Voidic Repair: (Treasure enchantment, obtained through fishing, villagers, or chests). Automatically repairs damaged items if player wears them (armor) or holds them in hand/off-hand. Repairs approximately 1 durability every 10 seconds.
- Serenity (I and II): Helmet enchantment. Reduces probability and duration of paranoia in the Void. Can sometimes clear paranoia.
Potion Effects
- Paranoia: Shakes player's camera and makes them hear monster sounds/damage. Obtained randomly while in the Void.
- Void Parasite: Obtained when bitten by a parasite. When effect ends, a Void Inhabitant emerges from player's body and deals heavy damage.
- Combustible: Obtained by "drinking" void gas or with corresponding potion (Nether Gas + Nether Wart in a still). When entity contacts fire, loses effect and explodes. Tip: shoot mobs with flame bow and combustible arrows - quite amusing if they're not immune to projectiles or fire.
