Mod WAY: Where Are You?

WAY is a multiplayer utility that makes it easy to locate your friends in the game. By pressing the M key, it highlights them in various ways directly in the world.

The developer created this mod with accessibility in mind. If you have a poor sense of direction or often lose sight of companions in dense biomes or deep caves—this tool will greatly simplify your cooperative adventures. Instead of constantly exchanging coordinates or wandering around to find each other, you can reunite instantly.

Main Features

By default, the mod displays a player's HEAD, an OUTLINE around it, DISTANCE to you, and NAME. You can also enable SELF-DISPLAY to see your own marker. All settings are controlled via the /way see command and its subcommands.

WAY is always active, but it automatically hides when you come within 3 blocks of a player. Markers also disappear if the distance exceeds 9999 blocks. These parameters can be changed using the /way admin disableIfWithin and /way admin disableIfFurtherThan commands, respectively.

By default, the /way see hideIfVisible option is off. If enabled, markers will only appear when players are hidden behind walls.

Color Settings

Initially, all players are displayed without color coding. You can choose your color with /way color by selecting one of Minecraft's default colors or specifying your own hex code. The /way color clear command removes the assigned color.

Hex colors offer additional possibilities. For example, if the /way admin seeTeamColorOnly setting is enabled and players can freely switch teams, you can set a unique color to make it harder for others who don't know it to find you. This provides privacy within teams even on public servers.

Admins can use /way admin teamColorNoFriendlyFire true to disable PVP between players of the same color, optimizing cooperative play.

Players can focus on a specific color or a particular player with the /way focus command, or reset focus to see everyone again.

Participation in the System

Players who do not want to be found via WAY on a server can opt out using /way opt-out. The /way opt-in command allows them to rejoin.

Server administrators can force all players to participate using /way admin forceOpt-in true.

Additional Admin Commands

/way admin colorDistance true makes a player's color fade as the distance increases. The saturation limits are defined by the /way admin disableIfWithin and /way admin disableIfFurtherThan settings.

/way admin lock see/color prevents players from changing visibility or color settings, useful for limiting available information.

/way admin modify allows admins to change color, focus, participation, and visibility settings for any player.

/way admin namepain nameFlashesWhenHurt makes player names flash red when they take damage.

/way admin namepain nameColorGetsRedder makes names redder as damage taken increases. This also works with colored names, so when enabling this option alongside team colors, muddy shades may appear—use with caution.

/way admin seeAll true shows all players, ignoring other settings.

/way admin packetUpdateRate changes how often position data is sent to sync markers. Change at your own risk!
