What Are You Voting For? 2023
The annual Minecraft Mob Vote is back, and with it returns the What Are You Voting For? modification for 2023! This project allows you to get acquainted with all voting candidates directly in the game ahead of time.
About the Modification
What Are You Voting For? is a series of mods that add all Mob Vote participants to Minecraft long before the actual voting begins. You'll be able to personally evaluate each mob and make a more informed decision when choosing.
This year's voting features three candidates: Crab, Armadillo, and Penguin!
The mod is available for Minecraft versions 1.20.1 and 1.19.2.
Feature Notations

2023 Voting Candidates
Crab
Official Crab introduction by Mojang Studios
Crabs inhabit mangrove swamps and are slightly rarer than frogs. They can climb blocks, similar to spiders.
The crab's left claw comes in three sizes: small, medium, and large. The claw grows over time, increasing in size at random intervals between 5 and 10 minutes.
Crabs occasionally wave their left claws.
When a crab with a maximum-sized claw waves it, there's a 1 in 30 chance the claw will drop (revealing a small claw underneath). Dropped claws remain on the ground for only one minute, so you need to act quickly!
Crab claws can be used to increase maximum building distance by 2 blocks. Each use of the claw for distant building consumes 1 durability point. The claw has 100 durability total and cannot be repaired.
Crabs cannot be bred.
Armadillo
Official Armadillo introduction by Mojang Studios
Armadillos inhabit savannas, are rare, and only spawn individually.
Armadillos scare easily and curl into a ball when frightened. Curled armadillos become solid like blocks, take significantly reduced damage, and are immune to arrows.
What frightens armadillos:
- Monsters
- Other mobs (armadillos calm down even if mobs remain nearby)
- Taking damage (also frightens nearby armadillos)
- Players walking without crouching
- Players turning quickly
- Players falling from heights over 0.6 blocks
Armadillos can be tempted and bred using eggs.
When a baby armadillo grows up, it drops an armadillo scute.
4 armadillo scutes can be used to craft wolf armor, which can be equipped on a tamed wolf using the use button (default RMB) and removed by crouching and using the use button on the wolf with an empty hand.
To avoid confusion between scutes and armadillo scutes, regular scutes have been renamed to turtle scutes.
Penguin
Official Penguin introduction by Mojang Studios
Penguins inhabit stony shores and move between land and water.
Penguins can quickly leap from water onto land, but are clumsy on land and may stumble when jumping down blocks!
Penguins sometimes look at other mobs and happily flap their wings.
Penguins sometimes approach and look at players and other penguins for extended periods.
Penguins can be bred using salmon or cod. After breeding, one of the penguins returns to land and lays an egg. The penguin will try to sit on the egg until it hatches. Penguin eggs only hatch when penguins are sitting on them. If an egg is left unattended, a nearby penguin may claim it as its own.
When using a boat near penguins, the penguins will gather around the boat and speed it up!
