key's Wild Temperatures
A mod that adds a realistic temperature system to Minecraft based on standard game mechanics. It makes the game more challenging but doesn't require learning complex new mechanics!
Main Features
- Temperature system works based on standard temperature values from vanilla game
- Doesn't add new items or blocks
- Increases game difficulty while maintaining balance and avoiding frustration
- Develops temperature and weather ideas already present in Minecraft
- New enchantment "Frost Protection" as an analogue to "Fire Protection"
- Temperature display in interface and overlays
- Chainmail armor recipe
- Configurable parameters
- Left-handed mode
How It Works
In extremely cold biomes, you take cold damage and can freeze to death. To avoid this, wear at least 3 pieces of leather armor or enchant one piece of armor with "Frost Protection".
In extremely hot biomes, you take heat damage and can burn to death. For protection, wear at least 3 pieces of chainmail armor, enchant armor with "Fire Protection", or drink a fire resistance potion.
Nights in deserts become extremely cold.
"Frost Protection" gives the resistance effect if the biome temperature is below 0.2 degrees (this also applies to nights in deserts).
Jumping in water protects from heat.
In the current version, blocks, torches, lava and other objects don't affect temperature (this may change in future updates).
Frequently Asked Questions
What does "expansion of vanilla mechanics" mean?
Minecraft already has freezing mechanics in powdered snow. This mod develops this idea: leather armor protects from cold, freezing occurs in extremely cold biomes.
Vanilla game doesn't have a proper analogue for heat (except burning), so a natural counterbalance was created: chainmail armor protects from extreme heat.
New enchantment - doesn't this contradict vanilla theme?
Minecraft already has "Fire Protection" that protects from extreme heat in this mod. However, there was no analogue for cold, so the "Frost Protection" enchantment was added.
Since there are no ice mobs or ice attacks in the game, it was decided to make it more useful: when wearing armor with frost protection in extremely cold biomes, you get the resistance effect.
Compatibility with other mods?
Compatibility is very basic: the mod reads the current biome temperature at player location and uses it for calculations. There's no functionality to add items, biomes or blocks to temperature calculations.
Basic functions work, but specific features like cold nights in certain biomes are impossible. The enchantment should work correctly as it takes current biome temperature into account.
