Woodcutter

This datapack expands the functionality of the stonecutter by adding the ability to process all types of wood. With it, you can turn logs into more complex building elements directly using the stonecutter.

Recipe System

This example demonstrates working with oak wood, but similar operations are available for all wood types in the game.
Item amounts may differ slightly for bamboo blocks - they yield only 2 bamboo planks.

The mangrove wood example demonstrates the system's versatility - all wood types work on the same principle.

Resource Economy Structure
You may have noticed that certain items - fences, fence gates, doors, and trapdoors - can only be created from logs, not planks. This is intentionally designed to maintain resource economy balance. My goal was to provide a maximum advantage of 0.5 extra planks when using the stonecutter instead of the crafting table - this aligns with the standard game balance for creating stone stairs.
Wooden block resource cost table:
| Item | Planks needed (including sticks) | Recipe output | Cost per block (in planks) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stair | 6 | 4 | 1.5 |
| Slab | 3 | 6 | 0.5 |
| Fence | 5 | 3 | ~1.7 |
| Fence gate | 4 | 1 | 4 |
| Door | 6 | 3 | 2 |
| Trapdoor | 6 | 2 | 3 |
| Pressure plate | 2 | 1 | 2 |
| Button | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| Sign | 6.5 | 3 | ~2.2 |
Hanging signs are not included in the table as their recipe includes chains.
If this balancing approach doesn't suit you, there exists an alternative implementation with different resource economy settings.
