Worldsinger: A Cosmere Mod for Minecraft

Worldsinger is a content mod that brings Brandon Sanderson's fantasy Cosmere universe to the world of Minecraft.

Conquer the Spore Seas!

The first version of the mod introduces the planet Lumar from Brandon Sanderson's novel "Tress of the Emerald Sea"! This is a vibrant archipelago where colorful alien spores splash instead of water. Lumar is one of the most beautiful and dangerous worlds in the Cosmere.

Showcase of items and blocks added by Worldsinger on Lumar

Main Features

  • A separate dimension with unique blocks, biomes, magic, and weather conditions
  • 6 types of ethereal spores with individual mechanics and behavior
  • New potion brewing and crafting system using spores
  • 79 new blocks and 49 items

Dynamic Spore System

  • Spores react to any contact with water - water blocks, snowballs, and even the eyes of living creatures!
  • Spore oceans are fluidized by ventilation blocks from below - removing these blocks turns spores into solid mass!
  • Ventilation blocks can freeze, creating random stillings when the ocean temporarily turns into a spore desert. Beware of raising too many spore particles!
  • Ribbons of water, known as rainlines, move across the world along predictable routes (except in the Crimson Sea) and can be tracked on a map.

Experiment with Spores

Each of the 6 spores grows in a unique way when in contact with water:

  • Verdant spores transform into twisting green vines
  • Zephyr spores explode into clouds of breathable air
  • Crimson spores manifest as sharp red spikes
  • Roseite spores transform into translucent pinkish-red crystals
  • Sunlight spores emit light and heat
  • Midnight spores create mysterious Midnight Essence

Both spores and their growths can be harvested to obtain useful materials that interact with existing Minecraft systems in various ways.

Metals such as steel, iron, silver, and aluminum can dynamically control spore growth. The potion brewing system using spore particles offers an alternative to traditional potion-making. The cannonball crafting system allows creating custom throwable spore devices with configurable fuses and effects.

Dangerous but Survivable World

Every action you take can raise deadly spores. One mistake can mean instant death. However, with proper preparation and caution, you can survive and thrive on Lumar.

Use blocks of salt and silver to turn nearby spores into harmless gray. Equip your boats and axes with silver for safe sea travel.

Unusual Alien Atmosphere

Experience a unique survival challenge unlike anything in vanilla Minecraft. Master new strategies to overcome the dangers of Lumar. An alternative start where stone and metal are abundant, while wood and water are rare and valuable. Explore a colorful and bizarre world where oceans are deadly and giant moons hang motionless in the sky.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the mod polished and optimized?

Not at all. This mod expands Minecraft's technical capabilities in many aspects, and I've had limited testing, so I can't guarantee how it will perform on your computer.

Does the mod support multiplayer?

Yes! All aspects of the mod are designed to work in both singleplayer and multiplayer.

Will there be compatibility with other Cosmere mods?

Other Cosmere mods are great! However, since most of them use Forge, they unfortunately won't be compatible with my mod. I don't plan to collaborate with other Cosmere-related mods, as I enjoy the opportunity to present my personal interpretation of this universe in Minecraft.

Will you add other Cosmere planets and magic systems?

I'd love to if I had the time! Just this release required over 600 hours of development between design, programming, and art. I'm a solo developer working on this as a hobby, so I can't promise any update timelines beyond critical bug fixes.

Why are there hostile mobs and redstone on Lumar that aren't in the books?

I'm still exploring the boundary between what belongs to vanilla Minecraft and what is part of the universal Minecraft experience. For example, redstone will likely always be used instead of a custom electrical system since they serve the same function. Plus, you can create cool spore mechanisms with it!

Is the mod compatible with other mods?

It depends on the situation. I tried to follow good practices and ensure compatibility where possible, but my mod is quite complex and technically invasive. I'm also not a very experienced modder, so there's a chance some things might break.

Will you port the mod to Forge/Neoforge?

No. I have no desire to develop with Forge or use multi-platform modding architecture, as I have a personal preference for developing in Fabric due to more modern tools.

Why do I need to install all these libraries/dependencies?

Using libraries and mods created by other people is one of the best parts of the modding community. Many have invested time and effort to make utilities and systems more reliable than I could do alone, giving me important time savings instead of trying to invent everything from scratch.

Why did you name it Worldsinger?

As Worldsingers in the Cosmere share stories from other lands, this mod aims to translate the worlds of Cosmere into another medium. I wanted to avoid calling it the "Cosmere Mod" since there are many other great Cosmere mods, and this is only my personal interpretation of this universe.
