Worse Barrels

Worse Barrels is a mod created with a specific philosophy regarding item storage systems in Minecraft.

Many existing barrel mods don't meet my expectations for one simple reason: they allow storing incredible amounts of items — hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of stacks — in just one block. Some even offer wireless item transport, automatic sorting, or basic autocrafting features. Don't get me wrong, these features are indeed convenient, but I prefer games that challenge players rather than simplifying everything to the extreme. I want storing and managing large volumes of resources to require effort and creative thinking, not just installing upgrades that solve all problems.

That's why Worse Barrels came to be. These barrels are intentionally limited in functionality — each holds exactly 8 stacks of items, and this is a fixed value. No upgrades are available, the size cannot be configured and never will be. Their primary purpose isn't endless storage for all world resources, but rather compact buffers, filters, or temporary containers for larger storage systems. The main advantage: barrels can be nested inside each other, so compact organization is still possible, though not as simple as one might wish.

• Capacity: Each barrel holds exactly 8 stacks of items.
• Design: Available in all 6 types of Minecraft wood, 16 concrete colors, and 16 glazed terracotta colors.
• Placement: Barrels can be placed in 12 different directions — rotate them on ceilings, walls, and floors.
• Textures: The visual style is maximally minimalistic.
• Interaction: Items can be manually added and removed through the front panel or automatically using hoppers and other mechanisms.
• Control Settings: Client-side control configuration for adding and removing items if the default keys don't suit you.
• Comparator: The comparator signal level depends on the barrel's fill level.
• Content Preservation: When broken or moved, the barrel's contents are preserved, similar to shulker boxes. They can also be placed using dispensers.
• Stacking: Barrels with identical contents stack in inventory.
• Additional Settings: Options to configure stack size (when empty and full) and nesting depth.

Important Features: When barrels are broken, their contents are not lost, making them safe for transportation. Automatic input and output of items through mechanisms (such as hoppers) is fully supported.
