Worse Swimming
Movement in Minecraft features a complex implementation that has certain flaws. One of these issues is that due to the specific way swimming is implemented, effects like Slowness and Speed barely affect movement speed in water.
Many players believe this makes swimming excessively effective. That's why this mod was created, designed to change this situation for the worse by adding more realism and complexity.
How It Works
When moving on land, movement speed is affected by the friction of the block surface the entity is moving on. However, during swimming, the friction component is completely absent, allowing very quick speed buildup and making slowdown effects practically ineffective.
The Worse Swimming mod introduces two new friction components into swimming movement calculations: one for movement in water when the character is not fully submerged ("wading through water"), and another for full underwater swimming. By default, wading through water becomes significantly slower than swimming, but both parameters can be adjusted through the mod's configuration.
