Zombie Improvements
This modification significantly improves the mechanics of zombie leaders and their reinforcements while simultaneously fixing several critical bugs in their behavior.
About the Existing Mechanics
For those unfamiliar with the original system, here's how it works according to the official Minecraft wiki:
On all difficulty levels, wounded zombies (including husks, drowned, and even zombified piglins) summon all other zombies within a radius of 67×21×67 to 111×21×111 blocks to attack the aggressor.
On the "Hard" difficulty, zombies can summon additional reinforcements when taking damage. Each zombie has a "reinforcement call probability" statistic ranging from 0% to 10%, and zombie leaders (0–5% depending on regional difficulty) receive a bonus of 50% to 75% to this characteristic.
On the "Hard" difficulty, zombies have a 5% chance to appear as leaders. Leader zombies can summon other zombies as reinforcements.
What This Mod Fixes and Improves
In the original implementation, there are several significant problems:
- It's impossible to determine if the attacked zombie is a leader
- There are no visual or audio signals when reinforcements appear
- The presence of several bugs reduces the significance of these mechanics
This mod solves all these problems in the following ways:
- Adds a red aura around zombie leaders, similar to the charged creeper effect but red in color
- Plays a sound when additional reinforcements appear - uses the sound of the breaking block where the new zombie appears, repeating 5 times over 2 seconds
- Fixes two vanilla bugs: MC-219981 and (only for version 1.21.1) MC-14800
Additional Settings
Several additional settings are also available, disabled by default:
- Allow only zombie leaders to summon reinforcements
- Prevent mob spawners from creating leaders
- Prevent zombies created by mob spawners from summoning additional reinforcements
