Barbarians
Do you like piglin tribes in the Nether and would like to see something similar in the Overworld? Or perhaps you want to liven up the surface a bit during daytime? This small project offers a balanced but effective solution for both situations.
The mod introduces a new early-game threat: barbarians. Raid their camps to obtain resources and a new advancement in the Adventure category. It is recommended to install the "Parrying Shield" mod alongside this one, as barbarians use an item from it.
New Overworld Faction
Barbarians appear throughout the Overworld. These are humans who lost their way under mysterious circumstances. Barbarians are poor at blacksmithing, so their equipment is limited to wooden tools and leather armor (except for those in badlands who use gold instead). However, they are more dangerous than regular zombies due to their speed and numbers. Barbarians are also capable of wielding a unique shield called Buckler if the "Parrying Shield" mod is installed.
Barbarian Camps
Barbarians gather in small makeshift camps during the day. If you see a barbarian, a camp might be located nearby. Typically, a camp consists of stone debris, a campfire, and a Barbarian Loot Box. The latter is where barbarians store their loot, and they won't part with it without a fight.
Each camp can only house a limited number of barbarians. Some are tasked with guarding their camp while others roam the area. Eliminate the guards to temporarily prevent new barbarians from appearing (camps reactivate when you move far away). Destroy either the Loot Box or the Campfire to permanently disable a camp. Barbarians are mostly active during the day, so nighttime may be more favorable for raiding camps.
You can change the camp spawn chance using a new game rule called "barbarianCampChance". It controls what percentage of camps will spawn at chosen positions. The outcome does not depend on the world seed, meaning it's different every time the world is recreated.
Barbarians can build new camps when despawning during the day through natural means (when no players are nearby). A new camp is placed if the barbarian is more than 32 blocks away from the coordinates of the last visited camp (even if it's already disabled) and more than 32 blocks away from other barbarians. The new "barbarianCampChance" game rule does affect the probability of this event.
