Better Mod
Better Mod offers Minecraft players numerous useful features that enhance the basic gameplay and optimize performance.
Main Features
Smart Bookshelves - they can now store various paper-related items, including maps, books, enchanted books, paper, and empty maps.
Specialized Hoppers - the mod adds three unique types of hoppers:
- Bit Hopper - a lightweight version of a hopper that only pushes items but doesn't pick them up from the ground or take them from containers. Perfect for creating hopper chains where item collection functionality isn't needed.
- Pull Hopper - works similarly to Bit Hopper but can additionally take items from containers located above it. Still doesn't interact with dropped items and minecarts with inventories.
- Stick(y) Hopper - identical to Pull Hopper but keeps one item in each slot. This allows creating filters for up to 5 types of items (currently only for stackable items).
Technical Features
Mixins for Mathematical Classes - initially the mod used mixins for core mathematical classes to improve performance. While this generally provided positive results, some changes caused unexpected behavior (such as world generation issues).
API for Developers - BetterMod provides API for blocks with tile entities (BetterBlock) and tile entities with inventory + GUI (BetterBlockEntity). Also available is API for tile entities that want to receive notifications about loading/unloading from the world and whether this happens on the server or client.
Planned Features
- Screw Hopper
- Copper pipes for moving items, similar to hoppers but without the ability to pick up items
- Developers are open to community suggestions
Important Notes
- During development the mod was called BetterPerf, so code may contain references to "betterperf" or "bettermod"
- For working with Sodium, Indium installation is required for proper Room Controller functionality
