Complete Transformation of Minecraft's Combat System

New Combat Abilities

The critical attack system has been completely overhauled. Regular critical hits now deal only 1.2x damage, but special critical attacks with weapon-dependent scaling have been introduced. Using them requires accumulating a special resource that builds up from successful hits with weapons or projectiles. Each type of critical attack has its own animations, damage values, and knockback effects.

The Flourish System activates when hitting enemies on the ground or with projectiles. Accumulating 4+ charges enhances your next sprinting attack, dealing additional damage and enhanced knockback, visually represented by a kicking animation. Flourish charges gradually decay if you don't hit targets and reset completely after performing a flourish.

Unarmed Blocking brings back the sword blocking functionality from version 1.7.10. Pressing the V key allows you to block 50% of damage while maintaining mobility. This method is less effective against axes and projectiles. Targes offer an improved version of blocking with greater damage reduction and knockback resistance, serving as a more mobile alternative to shields. Blocking has a 2-second cooldown and is incompatible with shield usage.

Momentum Mechanics increase your movement speed while sprinting on the ground. Successful hits with weapons or projectiles accelerate the accumulation of this effect, which has a maximum limit and gradually decays when you stop sprinting or leave the ground.

New Items

Combat Tools - specialized versions of standard Minecraft tools with enhanced combat characteristics. Crafted by replacing a stick with a wooden sword when creating a regular tool. Available combat shovel, pickaxe, and hoe, each with unique sweeping attack effects and special enchantments:

  • Combat shovel deals enhanced knockback
  • Combat pickaxe deals additional durability damage
  • Combat hoe reduces the target's invincibility frames

Throwing Knives - fast alternatives to bows and crossbows with less damage and power. Compatible with elemental enchantments, multishot, and quick charge (mutually incompatible). Multishot increases windup time and allows firing three knives that can be enchanted with elemental effects. Crafted from a stick and the corresponding resource.

New Enchantments and Balancing

Elemental Aspects: Earth, Gale, Frost - new enchantment types incompatible with each other, with separate ranged versions similar to the "Flame" enchantment:

  • Gale deals small true damage after the target's invincibility frames expire and doesn't grant them
  • Ranged version "Gust" temporarily disables gravity for the projectile (visually - gale trail)
  • Earth creates a damage area around the target dealing true damage to everyone except the owner and victim
  • Frost applies a freezing effect similar to powdered snow, with diminishing effectiveness

Lethality - an exclusive enchantment for sharpness, increasing the critical damage scaling for both regular and special critical attacks. Visually displayed by red particles during critical hits.

Enchantment Tablets are crafted from one lapis lazuli surrounded by cobblestone. Allow transferring specific enchantments between weapons. Holding Shift and right-clicking selects an enchantment on the weapon in your offhand, then regular right-clicking extracts it onto the tablet. Subsequent right-clicking with a weapon in the offhand transfers the enchantment to the item. This system allows adding sharpness to tridents, fire aspect to axes, and elemental enchantments to knives.

Balancing Existing Mechanics

Shields received a 2-second cooldown after being lowered, don't give flourish charges to attackers, and cannot be flourish-attacked.

Totems now apply the "Tarnished" effect for 30 seconds after use, preventing another totem activation during this time. Attempting to use a totem under the tarnished effect results in death.

Tridents can receive sharpness/lethality through the tablet system (if they don't have other damage enchantments). Can have either ranged or melee elemental aspects (incompatible with channeling or riptide).

Axes are by default compatible with aspects and integrated into the blocking system, becoming more effective against unarmed blocking and targes.

Compatibility and Configuration

To integrate projectiles from other mods, use the forge:flourish_projectile tag to make them grant flourish charges.

Although configuration files are currently unavailable, the mod is planned to be fully modular with the ability to disable core features according to player preference.

Future Plans

The mod will receive regular updates with new content. The next major update will add a parry mechanic and significant balancing.
