Essential Features
Essential Features is a vanilla+ mod that adds numerous unique blocks and items. Among them are new redstone components like stained lamps, building blocks such as snow brick, and special items like the portable jukebox. There are also new music discs, redstone torches, and even lightning-based weaponry!
The mod has no specific theme—the author simply adds various things that seem interesting. This can include food, redstone, weapons—anything!
For modpack creators: Starting from version 3.1.0, Essential Features includes a lightning-smelting function. If an item is dropped next to a redstone rod and struck by lightning, the item will be smelted just like in a blast furnace. You can add recipes that only work with lightning by using the recipe type "essentialfeatures:lightning_smelting".

- Portable jukebox to take your music with you. Can be found in dungeons, abandoned mineshafts, Nether fortresses, and temples.
More Redstone
- Viewed Block—emits a redstone signal when looked at.
- Stained redstone lamps and torches: add color to your circuits.
- Block Breaker: when powered by redstone, breaks the block in front. Perfect for automating cobblestone production.
- Block Placer: similar to a dispenser but places blocks in front instead of shooting out items.
- Redstone Rod: an End Rod that attracts lightning.

- Cereal: restores 6 hunger and 1 saturation.
- Iron-fortified cereal: like regular cereal but grants resistance and regeneration. Made from cereal and a large amount of iron.
- Redstone rod sword and arrows: strike your enemies with lightning!
Miscellaneous
- Spike blocks: when walked through, they deal damage and slow down. Great for traps.
- Slate: a new type of stone found near the surface. Can be layered like snow.
- Blaze Block: made from 4 blaze powder, similar to a very energetic magma block. Continuously emits smoke, occasionally erupting into bursts of flame. Burns anyone nearby. Also a good furnace fuel!
- Purpur and Nether Brick doors: fitting doors for your inter-dimensional bases.
- Lots of new decorative blocks!
