Expanded Storage - Unmaintained
This mod expands storage capabilities in Minecraft by adding various container types: chests, old chests, barrels, and mini containers. Most of them retain the functionality of standard containers but offer significantly more item space.
For viewing crafting recipes, it's recommended to use the in-game recipe book or popular mods like EMI, JEI, or REI.
Container Tiers
Wooden Tier - holds 27 items (like a regular chest):
- Wooden - made from wood
- Pumpkin - made from pumpkins
- Present - has different gift wrap variations
- Bamboo - made from bamboo
- Mossy - made from moss, can spread with bone meal
Copper - 45 items (almost 2 chests)
Iron - 54 items (2 chests)
Golden - liked by piglins, 81 items (3 chests)
Diamond - 108 items (4 chests)
Obsidian - blast-proof, 108 items
Netherite - fire-resistant and blast-proof, 135 items (5 chests)
Modelled Chests
Modelled chests function similarly to standard ones but typically hold more items. They can merge vertically and horizontally to form tall and long chests, complementing standard double and single variants.
Old Chests
Old chests visually resemble modelled ones but occupy the entire block and lack opening animation. They have less impact on performance since they don't use block entity renderers.
Barrels
Barrels, like old chests, don't use block entity renderers, providing better performance with many containers in one area. Functionally identical to standard barrels but with expanded storage space.
Mini Containers
Mini containers are scaled-down versions of chests and barrels that can only hold 1 item. Perfect for gifting items to other players. Not all styles are craftable - some require using a Storage Mutator renamed to "Sparrow".
Tools
The Storage Mutator is a tool for configuring chests and other containers directly in the world. Has 4 operation modes (not all applicable to all storage types):
- Merge: allows combining two adjacent chests into a double chest
- Split: separates a double chest into two single chests
- Rotate: rotates any container (chests limited to horizontal rotations)
- Swap theme: changes container appearance within the same tier
Conversion Kits
Conversion kits allow changing the tier of blocks already placed in the world. Not all available options are shown - kits exist for conversion from wooden to netherite tier.
