FerriteCore
This mod significantly reduces Minecraft's RAM consumption through several different optimization methods. A detailed technical description of all implemented changes can be found in the project's corresponding documentation.
The amount of memory saved directly depends on the modpack being used. For instance, in version 2.5.9 of the All Of Fabric 3 pack, the RAM usage (heap size) decreases from 1792 MB to 984 MB. For comparison: under similar conditions but with Hydrogen installed instead of FerriteCore, consumption amounts to 1335 MB.
All measurements were taken after generating a world with a fixed seed and waiting for two minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I install the mod on the server or is the client sufficient?
Some optimizations work only on the client side, but there are several highly effective improvements that are relevant for the server side as well. Therefore, it is recommended to install FerriteCore on both sides.
Is the mod compatible with [other mod]?
In most cases—yes. The only exception is Hydrogen, which is compatible with all recent FerriteCore versions only on those Minecraft versions where Hydrogen is officially supported. This means that builds for versions 1.18+ are incompatible with Hydrogen, as this project has been officially archived and does not receive updates for these versions.
