Forge CIT

Forge CIT is an unofficial adaptation of the CITResewn mod, specifically designed to work with the Forge mod loader.

Important Note: Please do not report Forge CIT issues to the CITResewn GitHub repository. All questions should be directed to the appropriate issues page.

Why Do You Need This Mod?

Forge CIT recreates the Custom Item Textures (CIT) functionality from MCPatcher as a standalone mod for Forge that doesn't require Optifine installation.

Originally, the Custom Item Textures technology was introduced in MCPatcher and later inherited by Optifine. This system allows resource packs to change the appearance of items when certain conditions are met.

Forge CIT implements similar functionality as a separate mod that works without MCPatcher and Optifine! Moreover, developers plan to expand CIT capabilities by adding new types and application conditions.

Detailed usage instructions are available in the CIT Resewn documentation.

How Is It Different from CIT in MCPatcher/Optifine?

Although Forge CIT aims to maintain full backward compatibility with old Optifine/MCPatcher resource packs, there are some important differences.

First, the numeric ID system that was used before the "Flattening" update has been removed. Resource packs that rely on "magic numbers" instead of text IDs will not work.

Second, older versions of Minecraft and Optifine had a bug that allowed resource packs to use incorrect file paths. Now such paths containing characters other than lowercase Latin letters, numbers, dots, underscores, and hyphens are not supported and require manual correction.

To ensure compatibility, CIT files are loaded from .properties files in the following directories:

  • assets/minecraft/citresewn/cit
  • assets/minecraft/optifine/cit
  • assets/minecraft/mcpatcher/cit

Compatibility with Optifine/Rubidium

Forge CIT is designed to work without additional optimization mods, however efforts are being made to ensure compatibility with Rubidium, although there are no guarantees of full functionality.

At the same time, support for Optifine is completely absent.
