Hostile Mobs Improve Over Time
In this modification, hostile mobs become stronger over time - the longer you play, the more dangerous the enemies around you become. The difficulty level is calculated separately for each player: beginners get standard monsters, while those who have spent a lot of time in the world will face enhanced versions.
The modification is available in two formats - as a datapack and as a mod. For operation, installation is only required on the server side.
Which Mobs Evolve?
Currently, the following creatures are subject to enhancement:
- Zombies and drowned
- Skeletons and strays
- Spiders and cave spiders
- Creepers
- Pillagers and vindicators
- Witches
- Endermites
- Zombified piglins
- Guardians
- Hoglins and zoglins
- Ravagers
- Silverfish
- Husks
- Wither skeletons
- Piglins
- Set the desired difficulty level
- Enable or disable enhancement for specific mobs
- Configure the maximum difficulty limit
- Activate difficulty reduction after player death
- Place the shard on a sculk catalyst
- The shard activates upon contact with otherworldly technologies
- Add remaining mobs
- Expand configuration menu capabilities
- Create additional achievements
Each type of mob improves differently - some get additional health, others gain new abilities or enhanced attacks. Detailed information about how exactly different monsters develop can be found in the documentation for each mob separately.
Only mobs within a 32-block radius of the player are modified. The strength of enhancement depends on the player's score in the HostileMobs points system - the higher the value, the more dangerous the opponents become. This indicator increases automatically every 20 minutes (interval can be configured).
Individual improvements for each level are specified in one of 100 function files specially created for each mob type. The strength of a particular monster is determined by the nearest player.
Interesting feature: if you stay more than 32 blocks away from a mob, you can avoid its enhancement. This means the mechanism doesn't break automatic farms where the player doesn't need to approach enemies.
Game Configuration
The configuration menu is opened with the /function hostilemobs:config command. Here you can:
Image of game settings menuThe difficulty limiter prevents mobs from becoming stronger than the set value. A negative limit is used when enabling the post-death relief function or for setting the starting difficulty.
The difficulty reduction after death function is disabled by default. When activated, the difficulty indicator decreases by the set amount each time the player dies.
The level system works through the HostileMobs scoreboard. The value can be changed manually - this immediately affects mob difficulty. Usually the indicator increases every 20 minutes. Difficulty levels range from 1 to 100, after which mobs remain at maximum power.
Level Shattering
A special mechanism that allows mobs to occasionally drop special shards that reduce their levels. By default, the function is enabled, each shard lowers the indicator by 1. All settings can be changed through the configuration menu.
Using shards can cause various side effects, so it's better to prepare in advance. These effects can also be disabled.
In newer versions, shards are consumed directly, and to mitigate side effects, you need to stand on a sculk catalyst while using it.
Features and Warnings
The modification enhances the explosive power of creepers - be careful, they can cause serious damage to your builds and landscape.
Zoglins gain the ability to turn regular blocks into their Nether counterparts. This is extremely destructive to builds and almost irreversible.
The add-on may also disrupt the operation of raid farms - it's recommended to test this aspect.
