Incentive Paths
This data pack encourages the creation and use of paths in Minecraft by rewarding players who follow proper paths and penalizing those who wander aimlessly. Most natural blocks like grass blocks, sand, and similar ones slow down movement, while special paths, polished blocks, and other enhanced surfaces speed you up.
The data pack also adds two new types of boots that can currently only be obtained from wandering traders. Other methods of obtaining them will be available in the future.

The illustration shows how different blocks affect movement speed. Blocks on the left slow you down the most, blocks above the yellow zone have no effect, blocks above the green zone speed you up, and blocks on the right provide additional speed when using power boots.
If you don't like certain blocks but want to maintain speed bonuses, you can use slabs, carpets, and other decorative elements to hide them.
In short: quality blocks speed you up, while basic ones slow you down.
Special Boots
Wandering traders can sell two types of special footwear: power boots or travel boots. Both types serve different purposes. Leather versions are most commonly sold, but golden, iron, and even diamond variants are also available.
Travel Boots
With these boots equipped, all blocks function as in the original game - without slowdown or extra speed. They are ideal for journeys when you don't want to build paths.
Power Boots
These boots make you even faster if there are mineral blocks beneath the block you're standing on. They are an excellent choice for use at your base as they reward creating high-quality paths.
