Mercenary

Mercenary is a straightforward modification that enables players to accept quests from villagers. Simply approach any peasant and press the designated key (default is the hash key) to receive tasks for your team.

You may encounter two types of assignments:

Deliver a Package — Transport a specific item to another village. Deal with Rogues — Travel to a dangerous location (configurable via datapacks) and eliminate hostiles.

To complete both quest types, you must place a targeted block at the specified location after clearing hostile mobs within a small radius, with any remaining enemies highlighted by a glowing effect.

After successfully finishing your mission, return to any village to claim your reward: 1 to 64 emeralds. Should a quest prove too difficult or you simply change your mind, press the right square bracket key to cancel it (feature introduced in version 1.1.0). For tracking collected emeralds, use the left square bracket key, which removes emeralds from your main hand but adds their count to the vanilla scoring system, enabling competition among players.

Players who prefer not to rely on keybinds or have already assigned all combinations can execute commands through the chat with /mercenary quest|count|remove to select between interacting with missions, counting collected emeralds, or rejecting a task.
