MapModCompanion - Reliable Companion for Map Mods
This plugin ensures that your minimap will always correctly identify which world you're in, even on servers with multiple dimensions.
MapModCompanion is specifically designed to work with popular mapping mods: Xaero's Minimap (and its World Map extension), JourneyMap, and various versions of VoxelMap. It helps these mods properly identify worlds on servers using BungeeCord or Velocity.
How It Works
The plugin emulates mod presence on the server side, allowing mapping mods to correctly determine the player's current world. This is particularly important for network servers with multiple dimensions.
Compatibility
The plugin supports a wide range of versions for popular mapping mods:
- Xaero's Minimap: from version 20.20.0 (Minecraft 1.8.9) to latest versions for Minecraft 1.20.x
- Xaero's World Map: from version 1.10.0 (Minecraft 1.8.9) to current releases
- JourneyMap: starting from version 5.7.1 (Minecraft 1.16.5) to current updates
- VoxelMap: supports both old and updated versions of the mod
There is also experimental support for Folia, though it requires additional testing.
Important Recommendations
For best results, it's recommended to install the plugin on a fresh server. When installing on an existing server, some map data (waypoints, map cache) may temporarily become unavailable to some players, but this doesn't affect in-game progress.
Installation
⚠️ Important: The plugin must be installed on every backend server in your network. Simply installing it on the proxy server (BungeeCord/Velocity) is not enough. To ensure full compatibility, install the plugin on both the proxy server and each backend server (Spigot/Paper).
- Download the latest version of the plugin
- Place the files in the appropriate plugins folders
- That's it! No configuration required. You can restart your servers now
Configuration
The configuration file is located at plugins/MapModCompanion/config.yml
for Spigot and BungeeCord. For Velocity, the path is plugins/mapmodcompanion/config.toml
. Configuration automatically reloads when changes are made.
