Name Tag Drops
With this data pack, tamed and named mobs will drop name tags with their names preserved upon death. Now you can memorialize your pet without resorting to macabre collections of their remains!
This mod perfectly complements other data packs that alter the loot system, which is especially convenient for fans of the "Vanilla Tweaks" collection.
How to Use
For optimal performance, it is recommended to install the pack before creating a world. If you are adding it to an existing world, note that the system will not recognize previously named mobs. To fix this, execute the command /function drop_name:update_mobs, which will update data for all entities within a 32-block radius.
Important Features
- Mobs that can be caught in buckets (e.g., fish) will not drop name tags—they can be renamed via an anvil
- Modpacks with custom loot systems may be incompatible as they do not use Minecraft's standard loot tables
- After updating nearby mobs, name tags will drop from all named creatures, regardless of who named them
Uninstalling the Data Pack
Before removal, execute the command:
/function drop_name:uninstall
All mobs named after installation will lose their loot tables. To restore it, look at the desired mob and enter:
/data merge entity [autocomplete] {DeathLootTable:"minecraft:entities/cat"}
The entity identifier will auto-complete when you look at it. Change the mob type at the end of the command to the appropriate one. For example, for a sheep, specify sheep/blue along with the color.
