Regional Ore Veins
Transforming Resource Mining in Minecraft
Mining for resources in Minecraft often becomes a monotonous process where you can simply dig anywhere and find all types of ores. This project fundamentally changes this approach.
How the Mod Works
Instead of standard ore generation, the mod reduces the number of regular ore clusters and adds completely new types of ore veins. These veins are larger than traditional clusters but smaller and more fragmented than vanilla iron and copper veins (which have been replaced). The key feature is that they tend to cluster together in specific regions of the world, although smaller veins can appear anywhere.
Advantages of the New System
- Progressive development: Resources are harder to find at the beginning of the game, but become easier as you learn the distribution of ore veins
- Encourages underground exploration: Veins serve as clues to the location of rich regions, which is impossible to determine by exploring only the surface
- Promotes infrastructure building: Discovering a region with many veins of a specific mineral will make you want to return there repeatedly
- Solves the Fortune enchantment problem: The existence of this enchantment often prevents players from mining ore early in the game, as mining without it means losing some resources. Saving coordinates of large veins for later mining becomes a reasonable strategy
- Increases the value of Night Vision potion: Spotting ore veins in caves becomes crucial for finding additional resources
Added Ore Veins
- Redstone and coal (below and above sea level respectively)
- Iron and copper (below and above sea level respectively, replacing vanilla ones)
- Gold and lapis (both below sea level)
- Diamonds and emeralds (both below sea level, rare)
- Nether gold and Nether quartz (below level 32)
Regions rich in redstone are poor in coal, and vice versa. The same applies to iron and copper.
Requirements
Requires Custom Ore Veins mod. This project is essentially a datapack packaged as a mod, but this may change in the future.
