Soft Borders Mod

The Soft Borders mod provides the ability to set individual boundaries for each player using the /softborder [get|set|add|subtract] command. These boundaries are saved separately for each dimension and create additional challenges for the player if they leave their safe zone.

Key Features

When a player is outside the established boundary, various negative effects begin to affect them, with intensity depending on the distance to the safe zone:

  • Increased damage taken - grows proportionally to the distance from the boundary (up to 150% maximum)
  • Reduced damage dealt - decreases as they move further away (minimum 50%)
  • Weakened health regeneration - healing effectiveness drops (minimum 50%)

Configuration and Settings

All mod parameters can be customized to suit your needs:

  • Initial boundary radius
  • Effect increase coefficient based on distance
  • Maximum values for all effects
  • Ability to add potion effects at different distances from the origin point or nearest active beacon

Additional Features

Staying near an active beacon provides the same protection as being within the boundary - this feature can be disabled in settings.

When leaving the safe zone, a vignette appears, similar to the one shown when approaching the world border. The appearance of the vignette can be changed via a resource pack by replacing the assets/softborder/textures/vignette.png file. Important: for proper display, the vignette colors need to be inverted since it's a color mask, not an overlay.

Practical Applications

The mod was originally created for the "Order of All Creation: Relic Hunters" modpack. It works great for creating "sanctuaries" in post-apocalyptic maps or for gradually expanding boundaries as achievements and quests are completed in adventure packs.
