Spice of Life: Apple Pie Edition
This mod is a fork of Spice of Life: Sweet Potato Edition, designed to reward players who cook hearty and diverse meals while discouraging the use of simple and low-value food items.
Although the concept of Sweet Potato Edition (and its predecessor Carrot Edition) seems appealing, in practice it has significant drawbacks. The system awards the same amount of diversity points for every food item consumed, forcing players to eat even useless foods like glow berries, spider eyes, rotten flesh, or even raw meat (which provides the same benefits as cooked!). Additionally, the system doesn't encourage consuming hearty meals and snacking during combat, as it's strategically more advantageous to distribute food intake among different items.
Apple Pie Edition completely revamps this system. Players can now earn up to 5 or more points for consuming large, nutritious meals from mods that fully saturate the hunger bar. Each food item's contribution to dietary diversity is now calculated on a logarithmic scale based on its nutritional value and saturation - the heartier the meal, the more points you receive. Foods that restore less than 5 saturation points are barely counted, eliminating the possibility of system abuse.
The balance of benefits and thresholds has also been revised to create fairer conditions at the start of the game. It's no longer possible to gain six extra hearts on the first day just by snacking on found items!
The mod is specifically designed for use with addons that introduce new dishes, such as Farmer's Delight and Pam's Harvestcraft. It includes numerous integrations with these and other mods, including Farmer's Respite and Large Meals. Simple vanilla foods like steak and pork chops have low values, so without preparing complex meals from mods, obtaining significant advantages will be difficult. It's not recommended to use this mod without mods that add diverse and high-quality food to the game!
As for other aspects, the mod maintains compatibility with Spice of Life: Sweet Potato Edition, including identical configuration system and API format.
