Subsurface
The Subsurface mod expands Minecraft's underground world by adding 11 unique cave biomes to the Overworld and Nether. These new biomes can generate inside standard caves, creating hybrid underground zones, and are compatible with most other mods and datapacks.
Icicle Caves
Form under snowy biomes (excluding mountains). Characteristic features: icicles hanging from the ceiling and growing from the floor, ice formations that turn into blue ice when replacing deepslate. Aquifers here are completely frozen. Be careful with torches — they can melt the ice and wash away your light source.
Sand Caves
Found under desert biomes. Distinguished by sand and sandstone formations. Some sand areas generate floating in the air, which can lead to cave-ins if disturbed carelessly.
Swamp Caves
Located under swamps and mangrove swamps. Here you can find mushrooms, dead bushes, vines, clay deposits, mud, water areas, and various hanging plants. Aquifers contain lily pads and seagrass.
Underground Forest
Generates under biomes with oak trees. The ground is covered with grass, featuring mushrooms, vines, coarse dirt areas, and oak trees. Glow lichen grows on the leaves.
Coral Caves
Exist exclusively in aquifers and water caves under warm oceans. Filled with corals, kelp, and seagrass.
Tropical Caves
Form under jungles. The soil is covered with grass and ferns. Here grow jungle bushes, jungle trees, giant jungle trees, and bamboo. The caves contain mushrooms, vines, and on the ceilings of large caves — glow lichen. Aquifers consist of mud with seagrass areas. Caves close to the surface may have natural skylights.
Fungal Caves
Found under mushroom islands. The ground is covered with mycelium with large and small mushrooms. Also contain hanging mushroom roots, wall mushrooms, and glow lichen areas.
Mesa Caves
Generate under mesa biomes. Contain red sand and red sandstone. Here you can find colored terracotta and terracotta plateaus.
Underground Taiga
Forms under biomes with spruce trees. The soil is covered with grass and ferns. Contains mushrooms, vines, coarse dirt areas, spruce trees, giant spruce trees, sweet berries, pumpkins, and mossy cobblestones. Glow lichen grows on the leaves.
Soul Canyons
Generate in the Nether in Nether wastes and soul sand valleys. The ground is covered with soul sand and soul soil. Contain nether wart, soul fire, fossils, giant nether warts, and on the ceiling — weeping vines and nether wart blocks.
Quartz Canyons
Found in the Nether in crimson and warped forests. Characterized by giant quartz crystals, and quartz ore can be found in the surrounding netherrack.
