The Midnight

The Midnight is an amazing addition from the Cryptic Mushroom team that provides access to a completely new, mysterious, and frightening dimension. This is a world of eternal darkness where the only sources of light are crystals and local flora. You can travel to this dimension voluntarily, but be prepared—sometimes it pulls you into its gloomy and hostile expanses on its own.

🚪 How to Enter The Midnight

You can access this dimension through special Rifts. The methods of activating them differ across Minecraft versions:

For Minecraft 1.19.4 and newer: You must defeat a new mysterious mob that appears in the regular world. After defeating it, Rifts will begin to appear randomly at night, but only on the surface.

For Minecraft 1.12.2 and 1.14.4: Look for glowing red rifts that generate at night both on the surface and in caves. You can often encounter hostile creatures called rifters near them.

For Minecraft 1.15.2: Find a red mass in the regular world. At night, this portal activates, allowing you to transition to The Midnight. Before traveling, be sure to prepare well—this dimension is unfriendly to newcomers.

Note: In the latest version, the Rift mechanics are under development and may change.

❓ Rewrite for Version 1.19

You may have noticed that we didn't release updates for a long time. This is because we completely rewrote the mod from scratch! The result of our work was the release of The Midnight for Minecraft 1.19.4 and experimental versions for 1.20.1. If you want to chat with us directly about development—join our Discord server.

🕑 Support for Previous Versions

We have completely discontinued support for all mod versions released before 1.19. This allows us to focus on developing the rewritten version without needing to fix old bugs. Version 0.5.12 will remain the last release of classic The Midnight.

From now on, The Midnight is being developed as a closed-source project. However, the code for the classic version is still available on GitLab under the GNU General Public Licence v3.0.
