The Pursuer (Herobrine-themed boss mod)
This mod is inspired by various Herobrine-related projects and adds a powerful new enemy to the game. This version of Herobrine is perfect for those who prefer vanilla gameplay without the need to deal with lots of new items and summoning mechanics.
Main Features
The mod adds a new boss named The Pursuer who appears near a random player in the world approximately once per day. This mysterious figure is initially neutral but can be drawn into combat. If you dare.
Only one The Pursuer can exist in each world, and after being definitively defeated, he won't return without using commands. However, prepare for a serious challenge - this boss doesn't give up easily and is capable of escaping even Death herself. Moreover, with each wound received, The Pursuer becomes angrier and more impatient.
Several new advancements have been added to track progress in the battle against the boss. For the final victory over The Pursuer, the winner receives a new consumable item that significantly increases health and damage as long as the user remains alive.
Detailed Boss Review (contains spoilers!)
The Pursuer is a fast and strong boss capable of teleportation, difficult to defeat alone without high-tier equipment and consumables. His behavior is divided into two phases: Observation and Combat. These phases become more challenging with each of your victories over the boss. Additionally, The Pursuer changes weapons and receives boosts to various stats.
During the Observation phase, The Pursuer teleports to a random position near the chosen player and disappears if players get too close or too far, or enough time passes. After the boss receives a minor wound, approaching or waiting is no longer an option, and the only way to escape is to run as fast as possible. But even running away becomes unsafe after inflicting a major wound. However, there are still ways to avoid fighting. For example, The Pursuer really dislikes water and will leave if staying in it for too long.
The Combat phase begins when the boss takes damage or is provoked as described above. Initially, The Pursuer is armed with an iron sword and doesn't hesitate to use it in close combat. He has less health than vanilla bosses but is capable of dodging incoming attacks through teleportation. Inflicting wounds adds new moves to his arsenal, such as summoning reinforcements, placing TNT (can be disabled through the 'mobGriefing' game rule), and others.
Game Rules and Commands
The 'pursuerChanceMultiplier' game rule controls the chance of The Pursuer appearing near a random player. Default value is 5. Setting it to 0 completely prevents the boss from appearing, while very high values like 5000 cause him to appear almost instantly (the latter should mainly be used for practice and demonstration as the game may become laggy). It should be noted that The Pursuer ignores players in Creative and Spectator game modes.
The 'pursuerConditionalSpawning' game rule prevents wounded (stronger) versions of The Pursuer from appearing until at least one of the players progresses far enough in the game. Default value is OFF, it allows all versions of the boss to appear without their respective restrictions as long as the previous version is defeated. If set to ON, one of the players needs to obtain the following advancements to progress in the battle:
- 'Minecraft';
- 'Nether' or 'The End?';
- 'Eye Spy' or 'Free the End' or 'The Next Generation' or 'Bring Home the Beacon'.
The 'pursuerRestTime' game rule sets the minimum number of ticks that must pass for The Pursuer to reappear after being defeated in combat (but not killed). Default value is 36000 (at 20 ticks per second = 30 minutes).
The 'pursuerIsAngry' game rule makes The Pursuer instantly attack players upon spawning if set to ON. Default value is OFF.
The cheat command 'pursuerstatus' shows the current level of the boss (increases with each wound inflicted, 0 means he is definitively defeated) and whether he is stalking someone in the world or fighting at the moment.
The cheat command 'pursuerincrementlevel' increases The Pursuer's level and resets to 0 if the maximum level is already reached (can be used to revive the boss).
The cheat command 'pursuercanspawnforplayer' shows whether the current player meets the conditions for The Pursuer to appear nearby. This command doesn't check the world's difficulty but does check the player's game mode and conditions from the 'pursuerConditionalSpawning' game rule.
The cheat command 'pursuerresetspawnchecks' resets all checks from the 'pursuerConditionalSpawning' game rule. This command should be used after removing advancements from all players for the changes to take effect.
