ViaBackwards

On Fabric use either ViaFabric or ViaFabricPlus. To replace the built-in version:

• In ViaFabric place ViaBackwards in the mods folder
• In ViaFabricPlus add ViaBackwards to the ViaFabricPlus/jars directory

Depending on the platform and version, ViaVersion may be required.

Requires Java 17. If you need to update your Java version, follow the appropriate instructions. As a last resort, you can download Java 8 builds from our continuous integration server.

Early Access to New Minecraft Version Support

Starting with version 1.20.5, ViaVersion and ViaBackwards will be released approximately one day after Minecraft updates, unless protocol changes are minor. To get early access (usually several days or even weeks before the final release) you can subscribe through GitHub Sponsors or Patreon.

Important About Release Channels

It is recommended to always use the latest beta version. Alpha builds are intended for working with snapshot version support and other experimental changes.

Always use the same build channel for ViaVersion, ViaBackwards, and ViaRewind projects.

Known Issues

• min_y and world height values in versions 1.17+ that differ from 0/256 are not supported. Clients older than 1.17 cannot see or interact with blocks below y=0 and above y=255
• Clients versions <1.17 on 1.17+ servers may experience inventory desynchronization with certain actions
• Sound mappings are incomplete
