Volcanic Caverns
Volcanic Caverns is a Forge modification that enriches Minecraft's underground world with new lava-filled caves. These unique formations appear in the lower layers of the overworld, making exploration and resource gathering at great depths significantly more exciting and dangerous.
Additional natural objects also generate around these lava grottos:
- Lava waterfalls flowing down cave walls
- Lava lakes of various sizes
- Magma blocks creating hazardous zones
- Smooth basalt veins
- Basalt spires and columns
- Coal ore below Y -40 level (which is atypical for such depths)
- Additional diamond ore deposits below Y -32
All these features can be configured using datapacks. Future updates plan to add the ability to adjust cave height and scale, as well as other generation parameters.
The caves appear in any biomes with the "overworld" tag from the Forge biome dictionary, meaning they generate in any dimension with suitable biomes. If you notice abrupt cave endings between different biomes, this indicates the absence of the required tag in one of them.
It's worth noting that lava waterfalls may temporarily cause lag during the initial lava flow.
