World of Boxes - The Cardboard Universe
This modification was created as part of Modjam 5 - a competition for mod developers where participants must create a project within a limited time frame. World of Boxes presents a unique concept dedicated to cardboard boxes and everything related to them.
Concept and Inspiration
The main idea of the mod is to show that an ordinary cardboard box can become an entire world. It all started with a joke about boxes that quickly evolved into a full-fledged project. Inspiration came from various animated series, including "SpongeBob SquarePants" and "Futurama," where ordinary objects acquire unexpected functions.
The mod aims to spark players' imagination by demonstrating that even a simple cardboard box can create something amazing. All mechanics and content are built around this simple yet promising idea.
Added Content
World of Boxes introduces a completely new dimension entirely dedicated to cardboard boxes. You can access it through a special portal that looks like an ordinary cardboard box. In this dimension, all world elements - from ground and trees to plants and creatures - are designed with a cardboard theme.
Main mod elements:
- Cardboard dimension with unique world generation
- Cardboard box portals for traveling between dimensions
- Cardboard trees with matching foliage
- Cardboard grass and plants
- Mobs with cardboard textures (using render overrides)
Development Plans
Since the mod was created within the time constraints of a competition, only a demo version is currently available. Future plans include significant feature expansion:
- Cardboard armor and weapons
- Additional types of cardboard mobs
- Humorous elements and satirical references
- Improved world generation with randomization
- Several types of worlds inside boxes
- Limited world size (1 square kilometer per box)
- Various box visual design options
- Inventory versions of boxes
- Item teleportation systems
- Cardboard mechanisms and devices
World of Boxes is not just a mod, but an entire philosophy of building and creativity based on the simplest item we see every day.
