[MTR3/4] British Rail Class 153

A resource pack for the Minecraft Transit Railway mod.

History and Overview

British Rail Class 153 Super Sprinter is a series of Diesel Multiple Units created through the modernization of 35 British Rail Class 155 units originally manufactured by Leyland Bus.

In the late 1980s, shortly after British Rail's Regional Railways sector received 35 Class 155 units, there was a need to replace aging railway cars such as the Class 121 Bubble Car. This led the transport authority to decide to convert all their existing Class 155 units into independent railway vehicles. Seven units supplied for West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (numbers 155341-155347) were not included in this project.

The conversion work was carried out from 1991 to 1992 by Hunslet-Barclay (now Brodie Engineering) at their Kilmarnock facility. The conversion process involved reclassifying Class 155 units as Class 153, removing the luggage rack from the end of the carriage (originally without a driver's cab), and installing a new driver's cab (the so-called "B" end).

These units are equipped with BSI couplers, allowing them to operate in conjunction with other railway vehicles from the Pacer, Sprinter, and/or Turbostar series.

Currently, Transport for Wales Rail operates 30 Class 153 units, while ScotRail operates 5 units.

This resource pack enables the addition of the Class 153 model to Minecraft using the Minecraft Transit Railway mod and was created by developer Navi_LX9702 in 2025.
