Visual Fish Buckets

This resource pack is designed for version 1.17 — please ignore any compatibility warnings for now.

Visual Fish Buckets is an effective yet straightforward resource pack that utilizes Optifine's CIT features to assign unique textures to tropical fish buckets based on the species of fish inside. This is achieved by automatically selecting textures according to the NBT data of the fish bucket item. Each texture accurately matches the appearance and color scheme of the corresponding tropical fish mob, allowing you to instantly identify which fish is in the bucket. This feature is particularly useful for collectors who breed and store various fish species.

IMPORTANT REQUIREMENT: For this resource pack to function properly, you must have OptiFine version 1.13 HD U E4 or newer installed.

A quick note: Unfortunately, this approach doesn't work with regular tropical fish items since they don't store mob variant information in their NBT data.

Currently, the resource pack includes unique textures for all 22 real-world tropical fish species available in Minecraft, as well as some randomly generated fish designs.

Future plans include identifying additional NBT tags for randomly generated fish designs, though this may take some time. If you have variant tags that produce interesting-looking fish, feel free to share them in the comments :)

Note: This resource pack does not use modified textures from the original game. All buckets and fish were manually created in the style of default Minecraft.
